Students from Chisholm Trail Academy, accompanied by Principal Buddy Kuebler, assisted some of the regular Flag Crew in taking down and storing the U.S. flags that fly along Old Betsy Road during holidays and special occasions. The flags were flying in recognition of Presidents’ Day and were put away the morning of Feb. 21.
The crews for installing the 377 flags are all volunteers. The flags are stored on flatbed trailers, driving on this occasion by Don Beeson and Gary Heinrich. Regular crew members this time included Gwen Beeson, Ellis Hainey, Phillip Jackson and Steve Weaver.
The crew is complimented by students from Keene ISD and CTA, along with occasional organizations such as Pinnacle Bank and United Cooperative Services. Starting from Pinnacle Bank at 7:30 a.m., it takes about 45 minutes to install and/or take down the flags.
The next flag installation will be Thursday, May 19, in preparation for Armed Forces Day on May 21.
